Hersey Kiss Candy Cane Fudge

I am going to share with you the perfect holiday fudge. Although, not my own recipe, this quick and easy fudge makes a great gift and is even better to eat. I believe the recipe itself comes from the Hersey company kitchen.

Prep/Cook time 15 minutes, Chill time 1-2 hours.
Makes 2lb fudge

You will need:
2 bags plus 6 Hersey Candy Cane kisses*
14oz sweetened condensed milk
1/4 cup butter, diced into 16 pieces
5-6 mini candy canes or 2 candy canes

*when recipe was first written the bags where 9ozs, now they are 8ozs. You need a total of 18ozs or 96 kisses.
**original recipe uses a microwave but, a preboiling double boiler works the same.

Let us begin:

Spray an 8x8 pan with cooking spray and lay in a piece of wax paper, making sure to extend the paper over two sides, so you get handles for easy lifting.

The cooking spray acts as a sticky surface for wax paper and wax paper acts as a no stick surface for fudge. So really, don't skip this.

Place candy canes in zip top bag and whack them with a rolling pin to crush them.

This next step takes the longest, you have to unwrap the kisses. You will be amazed how long this takes, plan in 5-7 minutes. Place the kisses in a large microwave safe bowl. (Or the top of a double boiler**)

Add in butter and condensed milk.

Microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring well after each until you have a smooth texture.

For double boiler, place top of boiler on and stir constantly until smooth.

This is the look roughly 1/2 through.
Finished melting.

Pour mixture into your prepared pan and flatten with a spatula.

Spread crushed candy canes across surface and gently push down with hand to get them to stick.

Stick in refrigerator for 2 hours to set.

When ready to slice remove pan from refrigerator.

Gently lift up on wax paper to slide fudge from pan.

Carefully pull off wax paper.

Slice roughly 1 1/2" sqaure pieces, plate up and enjoy!
