MAKE IT: Sour Cream

Sour cream is a great and easy to make right at home. You do need to plan ahead for when you want to use it. You will need 2 days to get it set and chilled to proper temperature. What I like about making sour cream is how fast it mixes, you can make as much as you want,  you don't need any special ingredients to create it, and once you get a base recipe made you can actually keep it going by adding more cream.

This will make 2 1/2 cups sour cream (but can be divided in half or multiplied)
Prep time: 5 minutes
Full time: 2-3 days (chill time included)
You will need:

For the first time:
2 cups heavy cream
1/2 cup fat free buttermilk

If you want to keep it going:
2 cups heavy cream
1/2 cup homemade sour cream

Let us begin:

In a clean screw top container (I use the Zip lock twist n'loc medium size), pour the cream and let it sit for a moment

Add in the buttermilk (or previously made sour cream)

Give it a quick whisk and cover

Let stand on a counter in a cool spot for 24 hours

Move the container to the refrigerator and let it chill for 24 hours before using

Remove lid and give the sour cream a good stir, the very top will have a slight stiff skin on it, but once you stir it this will dissipate into a thick and rich sour cream!

Store and use for up to two weeks!
