Japanese Sticky Egg Rice

Sticky egg rice, is a Japanese comfort food. You will probably never find it on a menu in a Japanese restaurant but, you will find it in most Japanese homes.

It is super simple to make, uses five ingredients, and takes only a few minutes more than actually cooking the rice. I highly recommend giving this a try, it is sweet and flavorful. It even contains a little protein which makes it just all the better for you.

Serves 2-4
Full time: 25-30 minutes (includes rice cook time)
You will need

1 egg
3 cups cooked Japanese sticky rice*
2 tbsp soy sauce
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
1/2 tsp salt

*You can substitute white rice but it will not be as sweet

Let us begin:

Starting with hot cooked rice in a pot, stir in salt and pepper

Now add in egg and soy sauce

Stir extremely well to fully incorporate. Traditionally it is served now, but I like to cook mine off in the pot for 1-2 minutes, making sure the egg is fully cooked.

Move to serving bowls and enjoy. It is that easy to create and this makes great onigiri too!
