MAKE IT: Garam Marsala

Garam Marsala is a traditional spice blend used in North Indian and South Asian dishes. It has a beautiful, earthy smell with a savoy, zingy flavor.

Finding Garam Marsala is not easy but, blending it yourself is. Traditionally thus blend contains cardamom and saffron. I find these ingredients a little too pricy for the frequency in which I use them. So over the years I have tinkered with my blend and have finally found one both cost and flavor friendly.

If desired you can start with whole spices and grind yourself.

This will make approx 1/4 cup.
Full time: 5 minutes
You will need:

1 1/2 tbsp cinnamon
1 tbsp ground cumin
1 tbsp ground coriander
1 tbsp ground black pepper
1 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp turmeric

Let us begin:

Gently mix all ingredients together to create a lump/clump free mixture

Store in air tight container for up to 2 months
